Art WORK/ PL-UA Artists about Work / 22.09.2017 - 31.10.2017

An exhibition of contemporary Polish and Ukrainian art “ART WORK” was opened in Dworcowa Gallery (Wroclaw Main Railway Station) on September 21. This exhibition is a project of The City Gallery in Wrocław, Biuro Wrocław 2016 and Mystetskyi Arsenal.

The focus of the project is the work of artists and people involved in the art industry of Ukraine and Poland and the ambiguous relationship of the artist and the art market. The second important emphasis is a change in the traditional notion of work in society, the main challenge for which is the rapid reduction of jobs due to the comprehensive automation and development of artificial intelligence.

The concept is based on the multiple meaning of the word. Work – is something that we just do all day? Is t what brings us income? Is it an outcome of a better or worse organised set of actions? Art Work provides a starting point for a closerlook at the artist’s work, mechanisms of operating in the on the art market, he way the audience perceives both them and their works.
We also want to have a look at the art work itself – the outcome of each artist’s endeavours – starting from the issues of craftsmanship, manufacturing, through the traditional paint – erly skills and up to the search for new techniques and materials in the era of material deficits, globalisation, and the digitisation processes. Lastly, we focus on work in general – what it meant in the past, what it used to mean in the part and what it means now, in the era of corporations and technical revolution, and how it will look like in the future.

First edition of “ART WORK” was opened in Mystetskyi Arsenal on June 29 (Kiev, Ukraine).
