The Purpose of the Bratislava pro Wratislavia / Wratislavia pro Bratislava Project is the co-operation of two partner academies, the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design Wroclav in Wroclaw.
The first part of the joint project presents the exhibition of pedagogues, students and graduates of the Department of Painting and Other Media from the Bratislava Academy, which will be held in the spring of 2017 in three galleries of the beautiful Polish city of Wroclav. The second part of the project, an exhibition of Polish painters in Bratislava, connected with the introduction of the joint catalogue, will be held in autumn 2017 in four Bratislava galleries in Slovakia.

The exhibition of Slovak painters in Wroclaw will introduce a selection from the works of “founding” personalities who have not only shaped the painting scene in Slovakia by their works but they also pedagogically influenced it, most notably from 1989 until the present day. Daniel Fischer, the Professor, Ivan Csudai, the Professor, and Klaudio Koszib, the Associate Professor and Head of the Painting Department, currently conduct 3 painting studios at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava where dozens of painters of the contemporary young Slovak generation were formed and matured.
The study program of Painting and Other Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava enables students to learn, in depth, the laws and specifics of painting in detail, based on gaining an authentic creative experience, and in creative thinking, while also leading the students to critically reflect on their own work. The support is focused on the individual way to explore and learn about our own space of research, to understand the importance of its discovery in the present world, and to define: its borders as well as of overcoming them.
The study is conducted in an open manner, ranging from classical painting to its most recent positions with transitions to other media.
If we were to outline the characteristic of the contemporary form of Slovak painting, it definitely represents an optimistic position of art, full of expectations but also irony. It is a mixture of conscious reduction, relativity, abstraction, emotionality and illusion, but also of social engagement. Formally, it is defined by strategic interventions in the structure of the painting, the breakdown of merit bonds, the extension of the boundaries of the system and its new consolidation.
