On the 20th of December 2019 the City Gallery space will fill with drawings, graphic art, paintings, sculptures and posters by Mateusz Dworski, an artist associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław.
Eponymous “MIRAGES” can be read in various ways – firstly, in the context of Dworski’s struggle with the real, the material, created by the artist’s hand and the unreal, happening at the level of imagination and intuition. Secondly, in relation to the artist’s play with time and dialogue with the art of the past, which he undertakes through his work. Thirdly and eventually, in reference to his search for an ideal figure of existential nature, which he has continued for several decades. In its ambiguity this title refers to various areas of Dworski’s artistic activity.

In his artistic pursuit, the artist obsessively reaches for head and figure motifs, subjecting them to numerous transformations and deformations. He makes them more plastic and softens with fluid lines, then synthesizes them again, geometrises or marks with an element of abstraction to form them into almost organic shapes. Revolving around the themes of head and figure the artist plays them skilfully, thus presenting a multitude of painting and sculptural solutions that can be applied to these classical motifs.
The exhibition is on display until 15th January 2010.
The show is curated by Mirosław Jasiński.
