From 17 January, visitors to the City Gallery will have the opportunity to view a solo, cross-sectional exhibition by Katarzyna Rumi\u0144ska, a Toru\u0144-based artist who has made 3D printing the cornerstone of her creative practice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Katarzyna Rumi\u0144ska graduated in Intermedia and Multimedia from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toru\u0144. Her artistic journey began with experiments in virtual reality, but she soon transitioned to materialising her 3D projects, moving them from the digital realm into the physical world. Since 2018, when she began creating what she terms \u201cobject-images\u201d, Rumi\u0144ska has consistently explored their form, focusing on spatial, colour, and textural qualities. She also incorporates elements of movement and light into her work. Of particular significance in the meanings and themes Rumi\u0144ska conveys is the contrast between the rigid, utilitarian nature of plastic and the delicacy and sensuality of materials such as tulle, canvas, upholstery fabrics, and hand-woven or embroidered craft elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In the narrative layer, the artist uses the modularity of her works to reference the human collective as a living, constantly functioning tissue. The formal, textural, spatial, and colour heterogeneity of the objects enables Rumi\u0144ska to reflect on society \u2013 its diversity and stratification, along with the resulting implications \u2013 and on the relationship between individuals and society, encompassing the human need for community and the sense of being lost. In her exploration, the artist presents the concept of community in two ways: as a mass, subject to categorisation and statistical analysis, expressed in numbers, and as a collective shaped by historical experience and united by tradition, culture, and customs. The sharply defined, geometric forms and straight lines convey a detached, analytical perspective on society, while the harmonising, irregular shapes with flowing outlines introduce an emotional dimension to the works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The exhibition title, which refers to Rumi\u0144ska\u2019s 3D printing technique (Fused Deposition Modeling), also alludes to the cross-sectional nature of the Wroc\u0142aw exhibition, which showcases a substantial portion of the artist\u2019s diverse activities. Above all, it encapsulates the core idea of her creative practice, described by the curator, Katarzyna Zahorska, as: \u2026the search for spaces and moments in between. Balancing on the blurry and permeable boundary between the digital and the material worlds, the artist finds that small fissures through which fragments of one universe force their way into the other. By creating situations where the two realms intersect and intermingle, the artist breaks free from the dualistic phantasm of modernity, highlighting its inherent vagueness and ambivalence.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katarzyna Rumi\u0144ska jest absolwentk\u0105 kierunku intermedia i multimedia na Wydziale Sztuk Pi\u0119knych Uniwersytetu Miko\u0142aja Kopernika w Toruniu. Swoj\u0105 tw\u00f3rcz\u0105 praktyk\u0119 rozpocz\u0119\u0142a od dzia\u0142a\u0144 w wirtualnej rzeczywisto\u015bci, by po nied\u0142ugim czasie wydoby\u0107 swoje projekty 3D ze sfery digitalnej rzeczywisto\u015bci i zmaterializowa\u0107 w \u015bwiecie realnym. W ramach drukowanych od 2018 roku obiekto-obraz\u00f3w, jak nazywa je sama autorka, sukcesywnie eksperymentuje ona z ich form\u0105 w obszarze jako\u015bci przestrzennych, kolorystycznych czy fakturalnych. Wprowadza tak\u017ce w ich obr\u0119b element ruchu i \u015bwiat\u0142a. W kontek\u015bcie kreowanych przez Rumi\u0144sk\u0105 tre\u015bci i znacze\u0144, najbardziej istotne wydaje si\u0119 jednak kontrastowanie twardej, rzeczowej materii plastiku  delikatno\u015bci\u0105 i zmys\u0142owo\u015bci\u0105 tiuli, p\u0142\u00f3cien, tkanin tapicerskich czy tkanych na kro\u015bnie lub haftowanych r\u0119kodzielniczych element\u00f3w.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

W rozwa\u017caniach tw\u00f3rczyni zbiorowo\u015b\u0107 obrazowana jest wi\u0119c w dwojaki spos\u00f3b: jako podlegaj\u0105ca kategoryzacjom i statystycznym badaniom, wyra\u017cana liczb\u0105 masa oraz jako wsp\u00f3lnota ukszta\u0142towana do\u015bwiadczeniami historycznymi i zespolona tradycj\u0105, kultur\u0105, obyczajowo\u015bci\u0105. O ile wi\u0119c w konkretnych, silnie zgeometryzowanych formach i prostych liniach zidentyfikowa\u0107 mo\u017cna ch\u0142odne, badawcze spojrzenie na spo\u0142ecze\u0144stwo, to harmonizuj\u0105ce je nieregularne kszta\u0142ty o p\u0142ynnych zarysach wprowadzaj\u0105 w obr\u0119b ca\u0142o\u015bci emocjonalny pierwiastek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
