The building at 28 Kie\u0142ba\u015bnicza Street, where Wroc\u0142aw City Gallery is located, was constructed in late 16th century. It was rebuilt in the 18th century and then in 1889, when new windows and architectural ornaments on the fa\u00e7ade were added on the third floor of the building. The architectural and structural design made in 1968 by the Municipal Design Office in Wroc\u0142aw states that at that time the ground floor was occupied by a\u00a0hat shop and a\u00a0haberdashery shop with back rooms, while upper floors and the attic housed flats for tenants<\/strong>.

In 1977 a\u00a0technical design for a\u00a0major overhaul including modernization of the building was developed. It encompassed changes in the portal in the entrance hallway, richly ornamented in gypsum stuccowork, as well as some other decorative elements. Another mention of a\u00a0major building renovation dates back to 1979, when the Children’s Art Showroom was designed on the ground floor. It was connected with rooms in the cellar with stairs. Upper floors, in turn, accommodated offices. The renovation involved among others reconstruction of the entrance portal and an overhaul of the fa\u00e7ade on the ground floor which included adding new windows. The renovation led to discovering a\u00a0historic wooden ceiling over the room on the ground floor situated from the side of the courtyard. For this reason and due to functional changes introduced to the building the ceiling structure was changed. The attic structure adjusted to the historic character of the building was developed, too. The architect in charge of this renovation and modernization was G. Bia\u0142as.

A subsequent reconstruction took place in 1980-1981. The architect Z. Krawat designed interiors of the Children’s Art Showroom and the hat shop, as well as a\u00a0design for the fa\u00e7ade renovation which included reconstruction of damaged plaster and stone ornaments. Until 1990, the ground floor of the building housed service premises, a\u00a0tailor’s workshop and \u201cRox\u201d art gallery with stairs connecting it with cellar rooms. The upper floors functioned as an office space.

The building has retained its original character despite several renovations. All decorative elements and window frames remained unchanged, as only window and door openings were a variable element.

The building is crowned with a parapet with decorative architectural elements, ending with a pediment on which two putta are seated. W roku 1977 opracowany zosta\u0142 projekt techniczny na remont kapitalny z\u00a0modernizacj\u0105 kamienicy. Zmianie uleg\u0142 portal w\u00a0sieni wej\u015bciowej z\u00a0bogato zdobion\u0105 sztukateri\u0105 gipsow\u0105, a\u00a0tak\u017ce inne elementy dekoracyjne. Kolejne wzmianki na temat remontu kapitalnego kamienicy pochodz\u0105 z\u00a0roku 1979, kiedy to na parterze zaprojektowano Salon Sztuki Dzieci\u0119cej po\u0142\u0105czony schodami z\u00a0pomieszczeniami piwnicznymi. Na wy\u017cszych kondygnacjach mie\u015bci\u0142y si\u0119 natomiast pokoje biurowe. W\u00a0czasie remontu m.in. zrekonstruowano portal wej\u015bciowy, wyremontowano elewacje na poziomie parteru, dodano otwory okienne. W\u00a0trakcie prac remontowych nad pomieszczeniem parteru od strony podw\u00f3rza odkryto zabytkowy strop konstrukcji drewnianej. W\u00a0zwi\u0105zku z\u00a0tym, a\u00a0tak\u017ce ze wzgl\u0119du na wprowadzone zmiany funkcjonalne w\u00a0budynku, zmieniono konstrukcj\u0119 strop\u00f3w oraz opracowano konstrukcj\u0119 poddasza dopasowan\u0105 do zabytkowego charakteru budynku. Do 1990 roku na parterze kamienicy mie\u015bci\u0142y si\u0119 pomieszczenia us\u0142ugowe, pracownia krawiecka oraz po\u0142\u0105czona schodami z\u00a0pomieszczeniami piwnicznymi autorska galeria \u201cRox\u201d. Wy\u017csze kondygnacje mie\u015bci\u0142y natomiast pomieszczenia biurowe.

Od roku 1991 na parterze budynku mie\u015bci si\u0119 Galeria Miejska obejmuj\u0105ca dwie sale wystawiennicze na parterze i trzy w podziemiu. W 2013 roku wykonano przebudow\u0119 i remont pomieszcze\u0144. Zaprojektowano nowe wej\u015bcie zlokalizowane w miejscu wej\u015bcia historycznego oraz schody zewn\u0119trzne. Kamienica pomimo wielu remont\u00f3w zachowa\u0142a sw\u00f3j charakter. Wszystkie elementy dekoracyjne, obramienia okienne pozosta\u0142y niezmienione. Elementem zmiennym by\u0142y otwory okienne oraz drzwiowe.

Kamienica przy ulicy Kie\u0142ba\u015bniczej 28 jest to zwarta w zabudowie bry\u0142a czterokondygnacyjna oraz siedmioosiowa. Na parterze usytuowany jest portal obj\u0119ty kolumnami w stylu jo\u0144skim, zwie\u0144czony belkowaniem oraz dwoma obeliskami. Budynek wie\u0144czy attyka z dekoracyjnymi elementami architektonicznymi, zako\u0144czona nacz\u00f3\u0142kiem na kt\u00f3rym usytuowane s\u0105 dwa putta. W jej \u015brodku znajduje si\u0119 okno obj\u0119te dwoma parami pilastr\u00f3w. Kamienica posiada dach pulpitowy o nachylonej po\u0142aci z dwoma lukarnami.
