THE CITY GALLERY IN WROC\u0141AW<\/strong>

City Gallery in Wroc\u0142aw has been operating since 1991. It was established by Wroc\u0142aw Municipality and its main function is to present Polish and foreign art. But it does not restrict itself to Wroc\u0142aw only. The Gallery also promotes Polish art abroad and the art of Wroc\u0142aw artists in particular.
Gallery is a place of presentation of art understood as creation (or a collection) of artifacts. Not negating the right to existence for other various forms of para-artistic activities or concerning other areas of creativity, we want to separate them distinctively from narrower understood art \u2013 the fine art.
The aim of the Gallery is to ask questions about meaning and place of art, tradition and idea of beauty in culture and the world, about values and valuating criteria or freedom and responsibility of art. It is as important as presenting art masterpieces.
Moreover, since 2013 The Gallery started yet another activity \u2013 publishing of The City Gallery Library series which would include works on theory of art, the culture of artistic criticism and aesthetics.
The Director of The City Gallery in Wroc\u0142aw is Miros\u0142aw Jasi\u0144ski, Art Historian, a diplomat and maker of documentary movies.

Galeria Miejska we Wroc\u0142awiu dzia\u0142a od 1991 roku. Zosta\u0142a powo\u0142ana przez miasto Wroc\u0142aw, by prezentowa\u0107 sztuk\u0119 polsk\u0105 i mi\u0119dzynarodow\u0105. Dzia\u0142ania Galerii nie ograniczaj\u0105 si\u0119 tylko i wy\u0142\u0105cznie do przestrzeni Wroc\u0142awia. Jednostka promuje sztuk\u0119 polsk\u0105 za granic\u0105 \u2013 szczeg\u00f3lnie k\u0142ad\u0105c nacisk na upowszechnianie prac wroc\u0142awskich artyst\u00f3w.

Galeria jest miejscem prezentacji sztuki rozumianej w bardzo szerokim kontek\u015bcie. Nie neguj\u0105c istnienia w kulturze wizualnej rozmaitych medi\u00f3w, estetyk oraz postaw artystycznych, instytucja opowiada si\u0119 za r\u00f3\u017cnorodno\u015bci\u0105 idei i ekspresji. Nie od\u017cegnuje si\u0119 przy tym od wszelkiego typu dzia\u0142a\u0144 pozaartystycznych, wykraczaj\u0105cych poza ramy tradycyjnie pojmowanych sztuk pi\u0119knych.

Celem Galerii jest stawianie pyta\u0144 o sens i miejsce sztuki, tradycji i poj\u0119cia pi\u0119kna w kulturze i \u015bwiecie, o warto\u015bci i kryteria warto\u015bciowania czy o wolno\u015b\u0107 i odpowiedzialno\u015b\u0107 sztuki. Tak nakre\u015blone cele s\u0105 traktowane r\u00f3wnie powa\u017cnie, jak ekspozycja dzie\u0142 wysokiej jako\u015bci.

Galeria poza organizacj\u0105 wystaw zajmuje si\u0119 r\u00f3wnie\u017c dzia\u0142alno\u015bci\u0105 wydawnicz\u0105.
W roku 2013 rozpocz\u0119\u0142a edycj\u0119 Biblioteki Galerii Miejskiej, w ramach kt\u00f3rej publikowane s\u0105 dzie\u0142a z dziedziny teorii sztuki, kultury, krytyki artystycznej i estetyki.
